What the format shows
A product demo ad puts the product in someone's hands, close to the camera, and shows it being opened or used. In the examples here that means snack boxes, tumblers, supplement packs, chocolate and a power tool held up to the lens, a phone screen being tapped through, and a person in bed with a pillow.
Most are vertical 9:16 and look like a phone video. A few are landscape.
Unboxing, demo or both
Pick the version from what the viewer needs to see.
| Version | Lead with | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Unboxing | The package and the first reveal | Packaging is part of the appeal, or it is a gift item |
| Demo | The product working | The benefit is visible: a texture, a fit, a result on screen |
| Unboxing then demo | Reveal, then one use | There is room for two beats and both are strong |
| Screen demo | A phone or laptop screen | The product is an app or software |
Brands use demos because the viewer sees the product itself instead of hearing about it. The format answers "what is it and what does it do" in the same few seconds.
Beat list
- 0–2 s, the reveal. The product, or the box, pushed toward the lens. Text on screen states the angle.
- 2–5 s, the problem. One line, spoken or as text, on what was wrong before.
- 5–11 s, the use. Two or three close shots of the product doing its job, one action per shot.
- 11–14 s, the detail. A macro shot of the feature that makes the claim believable: a seal, a texture, a setting, a screen.
- 14–16 s, the ask. Product in hand with the call to action.
Keeping the product the same in every shot
Product drift is the main failure in AI demo ads: the label changes, the lid changes colour, the logo blurs. Use one clean product photo as the reference for every frame and repeat the exact product description in each prompt.
Hands are the second failure. Keep grips simple, avoid fingers crossing the label, and regenerate any shot with an extra or merged finger.
Script notes
A demo script follows the hands. Write one spoken line per action and keep each line under the length of the shot it sits on.
Say what the viewer is looking at ("this lid locks", "the powder dissolves in a few seconds") only if it is true. The UGC script template has a shot column that fits this format.
Format and length
Make the main version vertical 9:16, framed so the product sits in the middle third and clear of the caption area. Keep a 15 second cut and, if the demo needs more steps, a longer cut that adds steps rather than slowing the same ones.
Make it with AI
- Generate the first frame of each shot as a still, with the real product photo as the reference image.
- Animate each still with image-to-video, one action per shot: open, pour, press, swipe.
- If a person speaks, generate the voice and lip-sync it to the face shots only; keep hands-only shots under voiceover.
- Add captions, then export.

Set-up notes are in the guides for Higgsfield and Kling.
Compliance checks
- The demo shows only what the real product does. No faster results, bigger effects or features it does not have.
- Any before/after must be real and typical, and follow the ad platform's rules for that category.
- Claims on screen match the brand's approved claims.
- AI-made footage is labelled where the platform requires it; see AI ad labels on Meta and TikTok.
The demo version of a winning script
When a script already works as a selfie UGC ad, the demo version keeps its hook and claim and replaces the face shots with product shots. The spoken lines can stay almost word for word as voiceover. One winning script, made in every ad format covers how this version sits next to the others.
Who this is for
- Independent AI creators and editors. You make the ads yourself. You know your work performs, so you'd rather be paid on what it does than on a flat fee.
- AI agencies and studios. You run a team of editors. You write the brief, your team makes the versions, and you're paid on performance because you know your team's ads scale.
Not for you if
- You only want a flat fee.
- You're new to editing and not yet confident your ads will perform.
- You want every shot spelled out for you.
- You make one style and won't try others.
FAQ
What is the difference between a product demo ad and an unboxing ad?
An unboxing ad is built around opening the package and the first look at the product. A demo ad is built around using it and showing what it does. Many ads do both: a short unboxing, then the demo.
How do I keep the product looking the same in every AI shot?
Start every shot from a real product photo used as a reference image, and keep the same prompt wording for the product in each shot. Check the label and colour frame by frame before you cut.
Can an AI product demo show results the product does not deliver?
No. A demo is read as proof. Only show what the real product does, at the speed and scale it does it.
What length works for an AI unboxing ad?
Most of the examples here are short vertical clips. Plan the beats for around 15 seconds, then make a longer cut if the demo needs more steps.
Which AI tools are used for product demo ads?
People use image models for the first frames and image-to-video models to animate them. See the guides for Higgsfield and Kling for set-up notes.
