How do you make an ad mockup with this tool?
Upload the creative, type the ad copy, pick a frame and download the PNG. The preview redraws as you type.
- Upload an image or video up to 200 MB.
- For a video, pick the frame with the Video frame slider. The mockup shows that single frame.
- Pick a frame: Feed (4:5 media), Story (9:16) or Reels-style (9:16).
- Type the copy: page or account name, primary text, headline and button label. Click Fill in example text to see a filled version first.
- Download PNG. The file is named after the frame, for example
ad-mockup-feed.png.
What does each mockup frame show?
Each frame shows a different part of your copy, because feed, story and full-screen video ads lay out text differently. This table matches what the tool draws:
| Feed (4:5 media) | Story (9:16) | Reels-style (9:16) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNG size | 1080×1700 | 1080×1920 | 1080×1920 |
| Media area | 1080×1350, below the text | Full screen | Full screen |
| Page name and "Sponsored" | Top | Top left, under a progress bar | Lower left |
| Primary text | Up to 3 lines, above the media | Not shown | Up to 2 lines |
| Headline | 1 line, under the media | Up to 2 lines, centred near the bottom | Not shown |
| Button | Right of the headline | Centred pill near the bottom | Wide bar near the bottom |
| Other shapes | Placeholder web address, three dots, row of outlined action shapes | Shaded top and bottom | Four circles down the right side |
Text longer than the space is cut at the last whole word and ends with an ellipsis. The page initial appears in a round grey or white circle in place of a profile picture. Empty fields show placeholders such as "Page name" and "Learn more".
Why is it labelled an illustrative mockup?
Because it is not the platform's preview. The frames use plain shapes and system fonts, with no Meta, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube logos, icons or interface, and the real layout changes with device, placement and app version.
Every PNG carries an "Illustrative mockup" label in the bottom right corner, drawn into the image, so it stays on the file wherever it is shared. Use the mockup for drafts, approvals and briefs. Before you publish, check the ad in the platform's own preview.
Worked example: a feed mockup for a water bottle ad
Click Fill in example text and the four fields fill with:
| Field | Example value |
|---|---|
| Page or account name | Your Brand |
| Primary text | Cold for 24 hours, even in a hot car. Made for long days out. |
| Headline | Insulated steel bottle |
| Button label | Shop now |
With the Feed frame and a product photo uploaded, the PNG (1080×1700) shows, from top to bottom:
- A grey circle with the letter "Y", then "Your Brand" in bold and "Sponsored" under it.
- The primary text across the top, wrapped to fit, no more than three lines.
- Your photo in a 1080×1350 (4:5) area. A photo of another shape is scaled to fill the area and trimmed equally from the sides or from the top and bottom.
- A grey bar with a placeholder web address, "Insulated steel bottle" in bold, and a "Shop now" button on the right.
- A row of outlined shapes standing in for the action buttons, and the "Illustrative mockup" label in the corner.
Switch to Story and the same fields lay out differently: "Insulated steel bottle" sits centred above a white "Shop now" pill, and the primary text is not shown. Switch to Reels-style and the primary text returns under the page name, while the headline is left out.
How do you get a better mockup from your creative?
Upload media in the shape of the frame you are mocking up. The tool fills the frame by trimming the edges of anything that does not match.
- Match the shape first. For a story or reels-style mockup, start from a 9:16 file. Convert a landscape clip with the video aspect ratio converter.
- Pick a strong video frame. Slide to the frame that shows the hook or the product clearly. That is the frame people will judge the draft by.
- Write to the space. If the primary text ends in an ellipsis in the feed frame, the opening words carry the message. Character limits by placement are on the Meta ad specs page.
- Check what the overlay covers. The full-screen frames show where the copy and buttons sit. For the platform zones themselves, use the safe zone checker.
What are the limits of the ad mockup generator?
- It is not a platform preview. Layout, fonts, truncation and button styles are generic and will differ from the live ad.
- PNG only. A video upload gives a still of one frame. There is no video export.
- Three frames. Feed, Story and Reels-style. There are no carousel, right column, search or in-stream frames.
- No profile picture. The avatar is the first letter of the page name.
- Media is trimmed to fill. It is never letterboxed, so the edges of an off-shape image are cut.
- 200 MB per file. Larger files are refused.
- Nothing is checked. The tool does not review copy against ad policies or character limits.
For the specs each placement accepts, see the ad specs hub. To tag the landing page link before launch, use the UTM builder.

FAQ
How do I make a Facebook ad mockup?
Upload your image or video above, type the page name, primary text, headline and button label, pick the Feed, Story or Reels-style frame, and press Download PNG. It needs no account.
Is this the same as the preview in Ads Manager?
No. It is an illustrative mockup with generic shapes, and the real ad can look different on each device and placement. Use it to share a draft, then check the platform's own preview before you publish.
Can I make an Instagram story mockup with this?
Yes. Choose the Story (9:16) frame. It shows your media full-screen with the page name, headline and button over it, in a generic layout with no platform logos.
Can I mock up a TikTok ad?
Use the Reels-style (9:16) frame, which has a generic full-screen vertical layout with the page name, primary text and a button near the bottom. It does not copy TikTok's interface or logos.
Does the mockup tool upload my creative?
No. The image or video is read in your browser tab and drawn on a canvas on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
