Billo alternatives for UGC creators and AI ad makers

By James Tumbucon
Updated · 6 min read

The right Billo alternatives depend on how you make videos. For filmed UGC at a fixed fee per job, Twirl, trend.io and JoinBrands work the same way Billo does. For AI-made ads, look elsewhere: Billo tells brands every creator "is a human, not an AI avatar". Fiverr has an AI UGC category, and Anglr pays AI creators on performance.

What is Billo, and how does it pay creators?

Billo is a UGC video marketplace that "brings together brands [...] seeking user-generated video content [...] with Creators capable of producing and delivering them" (Billo brand terms). Creators are paid a flat fee per order: "Each Order includes an Order Fee, which you agree to accept as full compensation for your work when you apply" (Billo creator terms, s.5.1).

Other points from Billo's for-creators page:

  • Add-ons. Organic posting and Partnership Ads: "You can list these services, set your price".
  • Premium tier. Billo says creators who complete 14 videos and keep "excellent stats" can reach a Premium tier with "even higher paying offers".
  • Products. "Products will be shipped to your address at no cost."
  • No membership. "The Billo Creator app is free to download and you don't need a monthly membership".
  • Experience. "No professional experience or social media presence is required."

One cost sits with the creator: "All transaction fees, currency-conversion costs, or other charges imposed by Stripe are your sole responsibility" (creator terms, s.5.2).

On payout method, payout timing and which countries are included, Billo's pages state different things. Check the current creator terms inside the app before you rely on a schedule.

Can AI creators work on Billo?

Billo does not publish a rule on creators submitting AI-made deliverables. What it tells brands is clear: "Every creator is a human, not an AI avatar, and all 5,000+ Billo creators are vetted before they can join" (Billo for brands).

A brand buying on Billo is told it is getting a real person on camera. If you make ads with video models and no one films, a platform that names AI work is a better match.

Billo's terms mention AI in two other places, both about what happens to a creator's footage:

Clause What it says Source
Brand terms s.8.1 Brands may not use AI to make a "materially different depiction of a Creator's voice, likeness, physical appearance, clothing, or location" without "express, separate written consent". AI for edits such as "color correction, background removal, noise reduction, captioning, cropping, or translation" is not prohibited Brand terms
Creator terms s.7.9 Billo may use performance data to "train, fine-tune, and validate Billo's AI models" and "generate AI-derived creative variations or derivative insights based on your Deliverables" Creator terms

Flat fee per video or paid on performance?

A flat fee is earned when the brand approves the video, whatever the ad does afterwards. Performance pay depends on what happens after the ad runs, so it suits creators who can show their ads already work.

Billo, Twirl, trend.io and JoinBrands all pay a set amount per job. Trybe (jointrybe.com) lets each brand choose: its terms say a flat fee "becomes earned upon Acceptance of the Creator Content", while commissions "accrue when attributable results (e.g., sales, conversions) occur" (Trybe creator terms, s.5.2).

Pay model You are paid when Platforms on this page
Flat fee per job The brand approves the video Billo, Twirl, trend.io, JoinBrands, Fiverr
Commission or ad performance Results are attributed to your content Trybe (jointrybe.com), by program
Performance, with an optional retainer for volume On each brand's payment terms Anglr (this site)

If you need predictable pay per video while you build a portfolio, a flat-fee platform is the better fit. Our guide to building a UGC portfolio covers what to put in it.

Who each one fits

Billo and the other flat-fee platforms are the better choice for many creators. This table says which one fits which situation.

Your situation Better fit Why, in the platform's words
No experience, and you want your first paid jobs filming yourself Billo or Twirl "No professional experience or social media presence is required"; "We care about quality, not experience"
You are in the US, use an iPhone and want products plus cash trend.io "iphone & us based users only"; "Free Products + Cash"
You also want to sell organic posts or Partnership Ads Billo Add-ons you "list" and "set your price" for
You make AI UGC and want to sell it as gigs Fiverr "AI UGC uses tools like avatars or synthetic voiceovers"
You want commission or retainer programs with brands Trybe (jointrybe.com) Brands choose "commission %, flat fees, retainers, or a mix"
You make full AI ads in several formats, and they already perform Anglr (this site) Paid on performance, with winning scripts and angles supplied

If you want a flat fee per video, or you are starting out, Billo and the flat-fee platforms above fit you better than Anglr does. Anglr is built for creators whose ads already perform.

How do you apply to each Billo alternative?

Sign-up differs by platform, and some review applications by hand. Here is each route and its eligibility rules.

  • Billo. "Download the Billo app and create your profile", upload a short intro video, then "Hit apply and wait for the brand to approve you" (Billo).
  • Twirl. Send an application "showcasing your UGC portfolio". Twirl says it receives "400-500+ applications every week", review "can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks", and you may be waitlisted. It mainly works with creators in the UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UAE (Twirl), aged 18 or over (Twirl creator terms).
  • trend.io. Press "Apply To Join"; the review "may take some time", and new partnerships appear in the iOS app (trend.io).
  • JoinBrands. Free to join for creators aged 18 or over in the USA, UK, Germany, Australia or Canada who "have the skills to produce high-quality videos" (JoinBrands).
  • Fiverr. For AI UGC Gigs, Fiverr asks sellers to "Be transparent about Human vs AI production and tools used" (Fiverr). New freelancers "can benefit from Seller Plus Kickstart" (Fiverr).
  • Trybe (jointrybe.com). "Once you're approved, you get the brief, request samples if needed, upload, and start earning" (Trybe).
  • Anglr (this site). Send the ads you made, plus results if you have them. It is free, every application is reviewed by hand, and review is almost immediate. Start at Anglr for creators.

Who this is for

  • Independent AI creators and editors. You make the ads yourself. You know your work performs, so you'd rather be paid on what it does than on a flat fee.
  • AI agencies and studios. You run a team of editors. You write the brief, your team makes the versions, and you're paid on performance because you know your team's ads scale.

Not for you if

  • You only want a flat fee.
  • You're new to editing and not yet confident your ads will perform.
  • You want every shot spelled out for you.
  • You make one style and won't try others.

FAQ

Is Billo legit for creators?

Billo publishes creator terms (effective 1 Oct 2026) that set out how orders, payment and rights work, and says creators are vetted before they join. We have not used it; read the creator terms before your first order.

How much does Billo pay creators?

Each order has an Order Fee that the creator accepts "as full compensation" when applying, so the amount is shown per brief. Billo adds that completing 14 videos with excellent stats can give access to a Premium tier with "even higher paying offers".

Can AI creators join Billo?

Billo does not state a rule on AI-made deliverables, but its brand page says "Every creator is a human, not an AI avatar". AI creators usually do better on platforms that name AI work, such as Fiverr's AI UGC category or Anglr.

Do you need followers for Billo?

No. Billo says "No professional experience or social media presence is required" and "No following required to start".

Who can join Billo?

The for-creators FAQ says you must be at least 18 and live in the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom. Billo's pages state different things about Australia, so check the current terms in the app.

What is a good Billo alternative for beginners?

Twirl says "We care about quality, not experience", and trend.io says you do not need followers or even social media. Both pay a fixed amount per job, like Billo.
