What is an AI commercial?
An AI commercial is a video ad where AI models generate the people, places, product shots, voice or motion. A film crew, a studio and actors are replaced, in part or in full, by models driven by a script and reference images.
The word "commercial" suggests a TV spot, but most AI commercials brands run today are short vertical videos for paid social. For the wider definition, including static AI images and AI-written copy, see What is an AI advertisement?.
| Part of the ad | Filmed commercial | AI commercial |
|---|---|---|
| People on screen | Actors or creators, booked and paid | Generated characters, kept the same with a character reference |
| Location | A set or a real place, booked | A generated room, street or studio |
| Product shots | Shot on set | Generated from product photos, or filmed and combined |
| Voice | Recorded | Generated, or recorded and lip-synced |
| A new version | Often needs a new shoot | A new generation and a new edit |
How is an AI commercial different from a UGC ad or a TV spot?
The difference is in the look and the placement, not only in how it was made. An AI commercial can copy the look of a phone-filmed UGC ad, a podcast clip or a cinematic TV spot.
| Type | What it looks like | Where it usually runs |
|---|---|---|
| TV-style AI commercial | Wide cinematic shots, music, a voiceover, no one talking to camera | YouTube, connected TV, brand channels |
| AI UGC commercial | One person talking to a front camera, captions, a casual room | Meta Reels and feed, TikTok |
| AI animated commercial | 3D characters, claymation or a talking mascot | Paid social, YouTube |
| AI hybrid commercial | Filmed product shots plus AI scenes or AI B-roll | Any placement |
For paid social, the format decides more than the tool does. Meta's Reels ads page says to build Reels ads in 9:16, with sound, and with key elements inside the safe zone.
What formats can an AI commercial use?
AI commercials use the same formats as filmed ads, plus some that are slow or costly to film. The table groups them by the job each one does for a brand.
Each link goes to a page of public examples of AI ads posted on X. They were not made on or for Anglr, and each one links to its original post.
| Job for the brand | Format | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Build trust with a peer voice | Story-time selfie, get-ready UGC | AI story-time ads, AI get-ready UGC ads |
| Explain how the product works | Product demo, green screen | AI product demo ads, AI green screen ads |
| Answer objections at length | Podcast, expert, talking head | AI podcast ads, AI expert ads, AI talking head ads |
| Stop the scroll with a story | Drama, comedy skit | AI drama ads, AI comedy skit ads |
| Show social proof on the street | Street interview | AI street interview ads |
| Make a memorable character | Mascot, 3D animation, claymation | AI mascot ads, Pixar-style AI ads, AI claymation and craft ads |
| Set the brand's look | Brand film, fashion, music video | AI brand film ads, AI fashion ads, AI music video ads |
| Put the product inside a scene | Product placement | AI product placement ads |
All formats are on the examples hub. The posts show what each format looks like; they say nothing about whether an ad sold.
A brand does not have to pick one. The usual approach is to take one script that already works and make it in several formats, which is the method in One winning script, made in every ad format.
Why do brands make AI commercials?
Brands make AI commercials mainly to get more ad versions, in more formats, without booking a new shoot for each one. Speed and the ability to show things that are hard to film come second.
Meta's own writing points the same way. In a March 2025 post on ads ranking, Meta says that as businesses upload more creatives to support a diversification strategy, its Andromeda retrieval system helps pick the right creative for each person. More on that is in Meta Andromeda and ad creative.
Common reasons to use AI instead of a shoot:
- Versions. New hooks, new formats and cut-downs for each placement come from the same script and references.
- Formats that are hard to film. A talking mascot, claymation or a scene in a place you can't get to.
- Products that are hard to show. Inside the body, at a small scale, or before and after over weeks.
- Testing. Several angles can be tested before money goes into the one that runs. See creative testing.
How do brands get AI commercials made?
There are four routes: a self-serve generator, an in-house team, an agency or studio, or a network of AI creators who make ads from your scripts. They differ in who writes the script, who checks the ad and how many formats you get.
| Route | Who writes the script | Who makes the ad | Formats | Who checks it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Self-serve AI commercial generator | You, or the tool's script feature | The tool, from templates or stock avatars | Mostly avatar and talking-head ads | You |
| In-house team using AI models | Your team | Your editors | Any, if the team has the skills | Your team |
| Agency or AI studio | The agency | The agency's editors | Depends on the agency | The agency, then you |
| AI creator network | The network or the brand | Independent AI creators and agencies | Many formats from one script | The network, then you |
Self-serve tools, including the ad platforms' own
The ad platforms now ship their own AI commercial generators. TikTok's Symphony Creative Studio builds videos from product details or a URL, has digital avatars that read a script, translates and dubs, and makes variations of existing ads, such as a new hook.
TikTok says the Studio is free and runs on a weekly credit allowance, with video generation charged per second of video (Symphony credits). Its avatar help page says an AI-generated label is added to all exported videos.
Meta's Advantage+ creative generates and adjusts variations of image, video and carousel ads inside Ads Manager, such as image animation and video expansion. Meta says some of these enhancements are on by default and can be turned off, and recommends reviewing previews before launch.
Independent tools work the same way. Arcads, for example, offers a library of more than 1,000 AI actors on its home page. Its terms make the client responsible for any duty to disclose AI-generated content when publishing through its TikTok and X integrations.
When is an AI commercial generator enough?
A generator is enough when you need a person reading a script to camera, in many versions, fast. It is a weak fit for formats with several scenes, a story or a consistent product in close-up.
| Need | Generator fits | Skilled editor fits |
|---|---|---|
| One avatar reading many scripts | Yes | Yes |
| Translations of an existing ad | Yes | Yes |
| Drama, comedy or a multi-scene story | Rarely | Yes |
| The real product, accurate in every shot | Hard | Yes, with product references |
| Brand film or animated character | Rarely | Yes |
| A claims and compliance check | Yours to do | Part of the service, if the provider offers it |
Agencies, studios and creator networks
An agency or studio makes the ads for you, usually with its own team. How brands compare agencies with UGC platforms and creator networks is covered in UGC agency vs UGC platform, and how to hire individual creators is in How to hire UGC creators.
What should an AI commercial brief include?
A brief for an AI commercial needs the same things as a filmed one, plus the references the models need to keep the product and characters the same in every shot. Without them, the person making it guesses, and the product drifts.
Product: [product name] Link: [product page]
Goal: [sales / sign-ups / installs] Placement: [Reels / TikTok / YouTube]
Angle: [the one reason to buy] Proof: [review, test result, demo]
Hooks to test: [hook 1] / [hook 2] / [hook 3]
Formats: [UGC selfie], [podcast], [drama], [brand film]
Length: [seconds] Aspect: [9:16 / 1:1 / 16:9]
References: [product photos, front/side/label], [brand colours], [past winners]
Claims allowed: [list] Claims not allowed: [list]
Usage: [paid / organic / both], [countries], [duration]
AI label: [TikTok AIGC toggle or own disclaimer]
The free creative brief builder fills this in step by step, and the ad creative brief template explains each field.
Do AI commercials need a label on Meta and TikTok?
Yes on TikTok, and on Meta the platform applies the label itself except for political and social issue ads. Plan the label before upload, because an unlabelled AI ad can be rejected on TikTok.
- TikTok. AI-generated content in ads must carry the AIGC label or the advertiser's own clear disclaimer, caption, watermark or sticker, and undisclosed AI content can be rejected or restricted (TikTok ad policy). TikTok's Help Center also lists AI content it does not allow even with a label, including fake authoritative sources and public figures making an endorsement.
- Meta. Meta labels ad images created or significantly edited with AI with "AI info" (Meta help). Ads about social issues, elections or politics have a separate disclosure rule for realistic AI people, events and audio (Meta policy).
The full rules, with the points where Meta's own pages disagree, are in AI-generated content labels on Meta and TikTok ads.
What should a brand check before an AI commercial runs?
A brand should check the claims, the product, the people and the rights, in that order. The maker should already have fixed visual faults; the brand's review is about what the ad says and whether it may run.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Claims | Every claim, number and before-and-after is one your legal or regulatory team has approved |
| Product | Pack, label text, colour and size match the real product in every shot |
| People | No real person's face or voice, and no generated doctor, celebrity or official presented as real |
| Rights | You have written usage rights for paid use, in the countries and for the time you plan to run it |
| Label | The AI label or disclaimer is set for each platform |
| Placement | Aspect ratio, length and safe zones fit the placement |
How does Anglr make AI commercials for brands?
Anglr has AI creators and agencies remake a brand's winning scripts in every format: UGC, podcast, drama, animation and brand film. Brands with winning ads start from those; for brands that want it, Anglr can run a full analysis of the brand and write the briefs.
How it works for a brand:
- Briefs. Anglr can analyse the brand and write the briefs, or start from the brand's existing winners.
- Delivery. Videos arrive daily, on a rolling basis.
- Checks. Every video goes through QC and compliance review before it goes live.
- Rights. Creators own the ads they make, and brands get full usage rights to run them. Exact terms are agreed in writing before work starts.
- Pricing. A percentage of ad spend.
Brand access is by invitation. To see how it works and request access, go to Anglr for brands.
FAQ
What is an AI commercial?
An AI commercial is a video ad in which AI models generate some or all of the picture, voice or motion. Most are short vertical ads for Meta, TikTok and YouTube rather than broadcast TV spots.
Can AI make a commercial from a product link?
Yes. Self-serve tools such as TikTok's Symphony Creative Studio build videos from product details or a URL. The result is a template-style ad; a script, an angle and an edit by a person usually decide whether it sells.
What is the best AI commercial generator?
It depends on the format. Avatar tools suit a person talking to camera; video models used by a skilled editor suit drama, animation and brand film. Compare formats on the examples pages before choosing a tool.
Do AI commercials have to be labelled?
On TikTok, yes: ads with AI-generated or significantly AI-edited content need the AIGC label or your own clear disclaimer. Meta applies its AI info label itself, and requires self-disclosure only for social issue, election and political ads. Details are in AI-generated content labels on Meta and TikTok ads.
Are AI commercials cheaper than filmed commercials?
There is no crew, location or talent day, so the cost moves to editing time, model credits and review. The bigger difference is volume: one script can be made in many formats without a new shoot.
What is the difference between an AI commercial and an AI advertisement?
The terms overlap. An AI advertisement can be any ad format, including static images and text; an AI commercial usually means a video ad. See What is an AI advertisement?.
